Barfi Lifts Bollywood To New Heights

It was a reat treat to watch the film Barfi. The two and half hour movie did not seem so long because it kept me involved throught. The movie is out and out a director's movie, well crafted and very well directed.

Both Ranbir Kapoor in the role of Barfi and Priyanka Chopra as an autistic named Jhilmil have given superb performances. The debutant lleana D'Cruz as Shruti also has made a great entry into Bollywood. The music is very supportiveof the story.

It is practically a silent movie as the hero is deaf and dumb and the heroine is autistic.

One wonders as

to why Bollywood does not make more and more of such movies which touch the hearts of the audiences. Last time a similar movie was made was in the 70's named Koshish starring Sanjiv Kumar and Jaya Bahaduri. It was also a very emotional movie and both the stars had given superb performances which are remembered to this day.

In recent times there was the film Bhaghban which has now become a all time TV favourite. The actors Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini along with Paresh Rawal lifted  the movie to great heights. Another was Fanah starring Aamir Khan.

In such movies it is the director who is

the real contributor to the whole package. A good story is enlivened by a good director who is capable of bringing out the best from his actors. In Barfi both Ranbir and Priyanka have lived their roles to almost perfection. It would not be surprising if they get couple of best actor awards and the movie itself gets the best movie of the year award. The director Anurag Basu also can look forward to his share of awards.

However these type of movies do not bring money like Ek Tha Tiger (about to cross Rs 200 crore collection). It is one reason why many like them do not get produced frequently. For the sake of hoping, to get to see more better story movies in the future one hopes that Barfi hits the bull's eye at the box office. Barfi is a movie one will cherish for a long time.

Barfi truly lifts the Bollywood movies to new heights and poses challenge to many directors to match it.
